Derrick has been in the timber industry since 1995. He is a registered forester with the State of Arkansas with a forestry degree from the University of Monticello. He is a member of the Arkansas Forestry Association, Arkansas Timber Producers Association (Board of Directors), National Certified Forester Program, Forest Resources Association, Farm Bureau County Board of Directors/Forestry Division, and named Arkansas Forester of the Year in 2006.
